I was planning to run an ad in this week's Manly Daily entitled "Are You Special?" (yes, that was actually after a lot of thought)!
Things have been a little crazy at the hive (it seems that word has been spreading) and that, combined with the fact that I have torn wing (rotator cuff) means I really need some help. There are two positions actually, one for a candle-maker, and one for a Woman Friday/Admin Assistant Extraordinaire.
I thought I'd try my luck with Seek for the candle-making role. You can see the ad here. Note the bit about "attention to detail? Well, of the 50 or so applications we have received so far, only two have put in the cover letter we asked for. The best application we received (with a fantastic, heart felt cover letter) was from a guy in a wheelchair... which unfortunately counts him out of candle-making (but based on his application and letter, will hopefully count him into something casual with us towards Christmas). I've also forwarded his email on to a couple of friends who are seeing if they can come up with anything. Just to give you a little idea of how well he wrote, here's a snippet
"I realize that the somewhat visible red flag of a disability and more directly a wheelchair provides one with visions of inability and problems but I state wholeheartedly that it is little more than a label... that being said I am the traditionalist type person who is well aware of todays de-industrialization of society and I proudly apply for this job in a candle factory, no doubt one of few still remaining of any type of factory at all. I would rather find myself working in a factory working an honest job..."
Anyway, so back to the role for someone really special...
The role will be very varied and to some extent it can be tailored to the applicant. The key skills/attributes I am looking for are:
1. a perfectionist
2. who can dot i's and cross t's
3. who is able to multi-task
4. has strong computer skills
5. wants to muck in, get involved, be part of something extraordinary and make a difference (cliched perhaps, but applicable to this role)
6. loves detail, but can keep an eye on the bigger picture
I am looking for someone 3 - 5 days per week (depending on the person, hours, availability etc), with a requirement to work at least one Saturday a month (so that I too can have an occasional go at a normal life)!
