Beeswax Candles

Our Make Your Own kit contains sheets of 100% pure beeswax, wick and easy to follow instructions for rolling dinner taper candles.

Length of wick long enough to roll 10 x 10cm Taper candles with 1cm of wick sticking out the top of the candle (please cut accurately)!

Launched in 2008, our Phoenix design celebrated reinvention (rising from the ashes)... it feels incredibly apt for me at the moment but I know so many people who are in this process at the moment.  And if you're not reinventing yourself now, well the design is stunning too!

Our hand rolled beeswax pillar candles are designed to burn down inside their individually painted beeswax wrap. Please remove the white outer packaging before burning.

15cm Narrow: ~15cm H x ~6cm W (Burn Time: ~50 hours)
10cm Medium: ~10cm H x ~9cm W (Burn Time: ~50 hours)
15cm Medium: ~15cm H x ~9cm W (Burn Time: ~90 hours)
20cm Fat: ~20cm H x ~11cm W (Burn Time: ~200 hours)

NOTE: this candle is designed for longer burning (ie generally over about 3 hours). Please allow the candle to burn all the way to just before the outside wrap at least every second time you light it.

There are only two ingredients in a Queen B beeswax tealight candle - pure Australian beeswax and a cotton wick. You need to get both right to have a tealight that burns well.

The biggest challenge we faced (as we already had a deep understanding of beeswax) was finding the perfect wick for a beeswax tealight.  We were told by the owner of Northern Light candles - who had been selling beeswax blended with macadamia nut oil candles for years - that it was impossible.  It turns out that with a lot of humility, observation and tenacity, it was entirely possible.  We see he has now followed suit.^

Being candle-makers ourselves, we have never been in the business of selling beeswax candle-making supplies. As we've closed, and I've received many panicked phone calls, we're making a very limited quantity of wicks available in bags of ~500 wicks.

These wicks are exactly what we use.  They are coated in beeswax.  Of course, how your tealights burn will also depend on the beeswax you are using and how well it has been cleaned. 

Our metal cups are made with a significantly thicker grade of aluminium than other tealight cups.  If you've bought our tealights in metal cups, you'll be getting that exact same cup.

Our clear cups are a V0 rated polycarbonate. Read more about why I made this exception to my loathing of plastic here.

These supplies do not come with personalised tuition or answers to the many questions that arise when you're making beeswax candles.  It is in the observation that the lessons - both candle-making and life - are learned.

^A cautionary note as you look for another beeswax candle supplier... if someone seems very full of themselves online, then take most of what they say with a grain of salt as everything they say will be slanted to make themselves look good.  Facts are facts and they don't lie.  Ask questions.  If they claim they have organic certification, ask to see a copy of it.  Trust your intuition.  

When I dreamt up this candle, it was a skull with a vine (nature) wrapped around it representing the complex relationship between human beings and nature.

Then I spent months wick testing and working on the positioning of the wick so that i could get it to 'cry beeswax tears'.  I achieved this around the same time as the whole Mexican Day of the Dead trend kicked off... and if there's one thing I loathe, it is trends. 

From my perspective, beeswax transcends trends.  It is timeless.  And so for 25 years, we've marched to the beat of our own drum... a drum that you have heard. 

The vast majority of the population are still debating which jar they like their chemically bleached, heavy metal hydrogenated soybean oil in (oh, soz, I mean 'natural soy wax' 🤔) and which endocrine disrupting fragrance is tickling their fancy.  Seriously? 😫

So, our beeswax skull cries beeswax tears.  We only ever sold it through the David Bromley Galleries... David had the only Queen B skulls in the world, and I had the only Bromley Bees painting in the world.  Win win!

We've got 14 remaining, and they're resting in their Black Label boxes looking for new homes.  

These candles were designed and made for SCG Trust and produced for many years.  We have a few remaining in our stash for the cricket tragic in your life.  Never to be repeated.
