Expertise | Usability | Made by Hand | Fabrics | Proprietary Methods of Working with Beeswax
Expertise - we've got 20 years of skin in the game. That's tens of thousands of hours of expertise working with beeswax. Owner, Cate Burton, is the beeswax judge for the National Honey Show and is an acknowledged global expert in beeswax.
Made by Us and Made by Hand - we're control freaks at Queen B. We hand make every single candle and wrap we sell in our purpose fitout hive here on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
The next 2 largest brands in Australia outsource everything - their fabric is imported and sent directly to another company who wax it and sent to another for cutting and packing. How on earth can you guarantee the quality of your product if you don't even make it?
And then there are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of wraps made in a home garage or kitchen. Are you really going to risk wrapping your food in that?
Fabrics - From our beautiful ranges Made with Liberty Fabrics to our collaboration with Jocelyn Proust, we promise to bring you an ever fashionable range of wraps with which to adorn your fridge and lunch box! We're bringing the stylish to sustainable.
Usability - before we launch any product at Queen B we ask ourselves whether the world needs our version of that product?
In the case of beeswax candles it was a resounding yes as beeswax candles had stopped being made professionally many decades prior due to the price of beeswax. All the beeswax candles we came across looked dirty, didn't burn properly and were inconsistent.
In the case of beeswax lip balm, the answer was no... there are already great products on the market that we use ourselves.
In the case of beeswax wraps the answer was again a resounding YES! All of the wraps on the market that we tested were either too brittle (so you couldn't get a seal with the warmth of your hands); had too much beeswax in the mix (causing them to crack when unwrapping things straight out of the fridge) and/or were just downright ugly. The world most definitely needed wraps that were fit for purpose... malleable, easy to seal, not too tacky, not too dry, not too stiff and most definitely not ugly!
Proprietary Methods - Our methods of cleaning beeswax (using only water, filtration and time) are proprietary and carefully guarded. Our decades of working with beeswax have also taught us exactly how to respect and work with this extraordinary material and our hive dedicates almost 500 square metres to this pursuit.
Queen B is no backyard or kitchen table business... we take our commitment to your health and wellbeing seriously and hand make products with that in mind!
Should you ever be anything other than completely delighted with anything that you purchase from Queen B, please contact us pronto... we are not a nameless, faceless business with a call centre overseas - we're a passionate bunch of humans trying our darndest to make a difference.
Liberty Fabrics - original British design since 1875. Liberty fabrics are designed via bespoke production process: hand drawn or painted by the in-house design team in Soho, London. Transformed onto fabric at Liberty’s own Italian printing mill near Lake Como and shipped to Queen B in Sydney, Australia.
Betsy Ann - BETSY was designed for Liberty in 1933 by the designer DS who designed many of Liberty's popular 1930s prints. A small scale version of Betsy, this lovely floral Liberty Fabrics Betsy Ann print was taken from the Autumn Winter Collection 2013.
Clementina - Liberty’s name is so synonymous with the Art Nouveau style that the Italian translation is ‘Stile Liberty’. This particular design from the early 1900s is often used to describe the style itself. It became popular again in the 1960s.
Floral Earth - A medley of strange fruits and abstract vegetables are scattered across a blanket of fabric as bees buzz and beetles crawl. Each element was individually painted in oils and amalgamated into a rich tapestry of warm autumnal harvest fruits and vegetables.

Solid Pillar Starter Pack (>2-3 hrs burning per occasion)
Regular price $120.00 Sale price $99.95 Save $20.05Beeswax Pillar candles are for longer burn times... a minimum of 2 hours for the 8cm & 15cm Solid Pillars and a minimum of 3 hours for the Squat Pillar. You can also burn them for anything between the minimum and as long as the entire candle takes to burn (ie there is no need to put them out after a certain number of hours).
What happens if you don't let them burn for the minimum burn time? If it happens on the odd occasion, beeswax candles are very forgiving and will simply work things out for themselves. Any more than 1 occasion in a row and you will begin to build up thick walls on the outside of the candle which makes it difficult for the wick to draw oxygen and ultimately leads to a disappointing experience which is entirely preventable by choosing the right candles for your burn times.
This pack includes:
1 x 8cm Solid Pillars | Box of 2
1 x 15cm Solid Pillar
1 x Squat Pillar
All of our Solid Pillar candles are designed to consume every drop of wax they can, so please ensure you burn them on a fire proof and heat safe container or plate.

The fabric you receive may vary from those you see in the photographs (not dramatically but because photography is expensive and website stuff time consuming, if we buy a short run of fabric we love it is unrealistic to load. You are always free to return wraps as new if you aren't delighted)

Kitchen Starter Pack Beeswax Wrap - Dreamtime
Regular price $49.95 Save $-49.951 x Medium Wrap (27cm x 27cm)
1 x Large Wrap (37cm x 37cm)
1 x Mega Wrap (54cm x 54cm)
Our Dreamtime range of Beeswax Wraps use a selection of Jijaka fabric. Jijaka is an Aboriginal word meaning 'kangaroo'. Jijaka authentic designs tell the stories of Aboriginal people who have lived on the Australian continent for more than 40,000 years. Their corroborree ceremonies trace the ancient Dreamtime journeys of spirit ancestors, as they traveled the vast Australian landscape.
Sales of Jijaka designs directly support Aboriginal artistic, social and cultural programs.
Made with pure cotton fabric, pure Australian beeswax, organic coconut oil and tree resin.
Queen B beeswax wraps are a natural, biodegradable alternative to plastic wrap.
Uses: These wraps will stick to themselves using the warmth of your hands. Simply wrap around the food item (cheese, fruit, veggies), bowl or plate of food to create a seal.
Cleaning: Rinse between uses in lukewarm water with a mild dish soap (like sunlight soap).
Refreshing your wraps: Depending on your usage, your wraps should last between 6-12 months. If they start looking a bit haggard, lay between sheets of baking paper and iron (or pop on baking paper in a 110 degree celcius oven for a few minutes).
* Please note that the fabric pattern may vary

Burn time ±30 hrs
Due to the narrow width of these candles they have no minimum burn time. You can burn them for as long or as short a period as you would like.
All candles, pure beeswax or toxic, need to be burned until the pool of wax reaches the outside edge! It’s an immutable law of physics. This is a requirement every (ish) time you light your candle.
There is no need with a beeswax candle to put it out once it reaches the outside edge, it should just continue to burn beautifully, without dripping, emitting a light honey aroma and a gorgeous warm ambience.
If you’re looking for candles for yoga, meditation, a relaxing bath, kids dinner, bedtime story or any activity that goes for less than a couple of hours, these are the candles for you.
- Putting a candle into a glass vessel multiplies the light emitted by the candle many times over.
Curved glass (like a fishbowl) will achieve a better result than straight sided glass because the flame is reflected from many angles. Any glass is better than no glass! - Always allow your candle to burn to the outside edge. As some sage physicist said at some stage in the past “if you don’t allow your candle to burn out to the edge, it won’t burn out to the edge.”
- When putting out a pillar candle, use the end of any poker type object (we use the bottom of a pen) to dunk the wick into the molten wax pool and then ensure you lift it out again and re-centre the wick. This stops the wick from smoking (and keeps the wick strong).
Before you relight a pillar candle, always trim the wick to 7mm or so (a little shorter than a centimeter)… if you dipped your wick to put the candle out, it will be coated with wax that has now gone cold so you should be able to trim the wick with your fingertips without getting soot on them!
- We recommend always burning a candle on a fire safe and heat proof surface. Ceramic, tile, mirror plate, glass, marble… should all be heat proof (unless they have a special finish on them in which case check first). Never burn a candle directly on to a timber surface.
- Think about where your candle flame is going to be when you light the candle and ensure there is nothing that can come into contact with the flame (loose paper, curtains or anything else flammable).
- Think about candle safety when you’re setting a dinner table… leave enough room between the candles to allow your guests to pass dishes and drinks without burning themselves or knocking the candles over.
- Every child is different, so it is up to you whether it is appropriate to teach your child about fire or not and at what age. If you’re worried about fire safety around kids, think about putting the candles in a holder with a wide flat base (like a vase or fishbowl) and either keeping them out of reach, or, better still, educating the kids not to touch them while they’re burning.
We have had hundreds of customers over the years who have told us that they have taught their kids that when the candles are lit in the evening it is ‘quiet time’… dinner, bath & bed.
Every Queen B candle is made with 100% pure Australian beeswax plus a pure cotton wick. Nothing else. No fillers. No fragrances. No soy, palm or paraffin wax… just the purest beeswax in the world. There are many benefits of this approach:
- our candles all burn with an golden aura-ed flame that is larger than their toxic cousins (because of the high melting point of the wax we can use a larger wick) throwing more light;
- they burn significantly longer than any non-beeswax candles of a similar size;
- they purify the air via ionisation and have significant health benefits especially for those of us suffering from respiratory problems like asthma;
- using them is good for your health, good for Australian beekeepers, good for the regional communities they live in, good for farmers who rely on bees for pollination, good for national parks and state forests, good for the environment, good for artisan skills, good for Australian jobs and because of all of that, good for you!!
3 Days of Darkness - 100 hour Gothic Column - 100% Pure Beeswax candle
Regular price $129.95 Save $-129.95Our Gothic Column gives you the dripping candle look without all the drips over your table, linen, floor and carpet.
This candle has a burn time of over 100 hours when burned continuously... safely exceeding the time required for the Darkness.
A candle burned continuously (ie without extinguishing and relighting) has a different burn time to a candle which is lit for a period of time, then put out and allowed to cool, and then relit for a period of time. It's a combination of physics and chemistry. As recognised candle experts globally you can rely on Queen B candles not to let you down when you need them most.
Because of the importance of the burn time requirement for the Darkness, we have test burned our candles under these conditions and can guarantee this burn time.
H: ~25cm
W: ~7.5cm
Burn time: over 100 hours when burned continuously
Note: Due to its width, this candle needs to be burned for periods of 3 hours or more at a time.
Due to the width of this candle, it needs to be burned for a minimum of 2 hours each time it’s lit.
All candles, pure beeswax or toxic, need to be burned until the pool of wax reaches the outside edge! It’s an immutable law of physics. This is a requirement every(ish) time you light your candle.
As beeswax is extremely forgiving, if you blow them out sooner on occasion the candle should be able to play catch up.
There is no need with a beeswax candle to put it out once it reaches the outside edge, it should just continue to burn beautifully, without dripping, emitting a light honey aroma and a gorgeous warm ambience.

Beeswax Wrap - Medium x 3 | Dreamtime
Regular price $39.95 Save $-39.953 x Medium Wraps (27cm x 27cm)

Burn time ±50 hrs
- our candles all burn with an golden aura-ed flame that is larger than their toxic cousins (because of the high melting point of the wax we can use a larger wick) throwing more light;
- they burn significantly longer than any non-beeswax candles of a similar size;
- they purify the air via ionisation and have significant health benefits especially for those of us suffering from respiratory problems like asthma;
- using them is good for your health, good for Australian beekeepers, good for the regional communities they live in, good for farmers who rely on bees for pollination, good for national parks and state forests, good for the environment, good for artisan skills, good for Australian jobs and because of all of that, good for you!!

The World's Most Thoughtful Gift
Regular price $311.95 Save $-311.95Imagine opening a gift every week for an entire year, made by hand, by your favourite people on the planet, containing a wish, a message, a surprise or a thought for you... and a little candlelight holding the energy of that wish.
I was given this idea by a customer who did this recently for her sister's birthday. As each guest arrived, she gave them a couple of sheets of wax (& wick), a couple of strips of paper, a pen and a couple of pieces of twine and they created their gift. I, honestly, think it is one of the best ideas I have come across. So good that I borrowed it (with permission) and made it as a wedding gift for very dear friends.
I also sought her permission to share it on my blog and to save her buying 5 kits in future, we've created The World's Most Thoughtful Gift as a product - giving you 52 sheets of bees wax and 52 pieces of wick to create your own... or you could do once a month wish candles for 4 lots of friends (with a few left over for you), or even once a quarter wish candles for 13 friends!
You will need to get your own pens, strips of paper and twine.
Due to the narrow width of these candles they have no minimum burn time. You can burn them for as long or as short a period as you would like.

ANY taper will drip in a breeze – be it beeswax, paraffin or even the chemically hardened petrochemical ‘non-drip’ taper candles. Having said that a beeswax candle is the least likely to drip due to its high melting point.
If you want to make sure your Dinner Taper or Bee Light candles don’t drip, keep them out of any breeze or air movement. If the flame is dancing, then the air around the wick is moving and the candles will drip. Sometimes all you may need to do is move your candle 10cm to the left or right and that will fix the problem
If your table is in the centre of a breezy room, you may just need to think of candles like plants… some plants like full sun and some like shade. If you don’t want to waste your money, then observe this! Likewise, some candles cope with a breeze (Tealights, Round Votives, Solid Pillars) and others don’t (Yapers & Bee Lights), so choose the right candle/s for the right location.

- our candles all burn with an golden aura-ed flame that is larger than their toxic cousins (because of the high melting point of the wax we can use a larger wick) throwing more light;
- they burn significantly longer than any non-beeswax candles of a similar size;
- they purify the air via ionisation and have significant health benefits especially for those of us suffering from respiratory problems like asthma;
- using them is good for your health, good for Australian beekeepers, good for the regional communities they live in, good for farmers who rely on bees for pollination, good for national parks and state forests, good for the environment, good for artisan skills, good for Australian jobs and because of all of that, good for you!!
